Belvedere
Belvedere is a town in south east London, England inside the London Borough of Bexley. It's located south east of Thamesmead and is located around 12 miles (19 kilometres) southeast of Charing Cross. Belvedere was in Kent, and still features a Kent postcode. It was part of the Municipal Borough of Erith prior to 1965 and improvement took place prior to the Second World War, with considerable reconstruction work after the Blitz. In spite of this, Upper Belvedere and the Village still preserves a significant amount of its Victorian and Edwardian appeal and character. Upper Belvedere is home to a church and several Victorian and Edwardian brick villas. It boasts numerous conventional pubs, restaurants and retail outlets. These include The Eardley Arms on Woolwich Road, The Vic on Victoria Street, The Royal Standard in the heart of the village plus the Fox in Belvedere village. Upper Belvedere also boasts a large sized park and a library that was under threat of getting shut due to the government's cuts. Fortunately closure threats have been averted as a result from the efforts of the local area. A brand new 'Splash Park', which opened its doors in 2005, was a welcome addition to the village, having been developed on the location of the old Victorian paddling pool. The splash park retains some of the original paddling pool structures. From 1898 to 1961, Callender's Cable Works, at the Erith Works, was patron to Callender's Cableworks Band, an amateur brass band made up of employees of the business. The band was a prolific broadcaster on BBC Radio in the 1920s and 1930s.
