The Boldons are a team of three tiny towns in the north eastern of England - East Boldon, West Boldon as well as Boldon Colliery - north of Sunderland, east of Newcastle and also south of South Shields as well as Jarrow. They have a population of 13,271. Lying within the historic borders of County Durham, the towns are first recorded in print in 1170. Their names evolved from the words "Bold" or "Botl", suggesting a building, and also "dun", suggesting a hillside. In 1866, work began sinking a pit that started producing coal in 1869, as well as was after that referred to as Boldon New Winning. The town that established close by in the 1870s became known as Boldon Colliery. When the mine was grown as well as extended in the 1910s, more housing to fit the labor force was developed to the south of the pit in an area referred to as Boldon New Town. Up until 1974 the area was carried out as a city area of County Durham, but ever since has been part of the district of South Tyneside. In 1976, the Boldon Colliery Band showed up in episode 13 of the television collection When the Boat Comes In. The mine closed in 1982 yet more tasks appeared when an Asda grocery store opened in 1987. Recent growths include Boldon Business Park. Boldon Colliery likewise has its own multi-screen movie theater run by Cineworld. The primary high school in the area is Boldon School, a specialist sporting activities university.
