Damp Proofing in Blaydon-on-tyne

Extensions including garage conversions will usually require extra damp proofing to be added through the conversion, as the existing garage will often have a single skin design for walls and floors, which was not built to be in accordance with building regulations for habitable rooms. This damp proofing should be added to walls and floors. Additionally, the roofing of the garage conversion will need water proofing. The damp proofing of the floor of the garage conversion will most likely be achieved by using a damp proof membrane. This membrane can come in either solid or liquid form. The damp proof membrane will be placed down either on top of the existing concrete floor, underneath the new floor, or as part of both, depending on if the floor will be a solid or a floating floor. In a few garages, the walls have already been damp proofed, but this might need to be updated as part of the conversion in order to adhere to current building regulations. The walls will need to be damp proofed to be able to safeguard the brickwork from rotting gradually as moisture sets in. This can be accomplished by either using damp proof membranes, waterproof rendering, or cavity insulation, depending on the type of walls already present in the garage. Damp proofing is an integral part of the building regulations that the garage conversion should adhere to, therefore is it vital to ensure that your garage conversion makes use of appropriate damp proofing methods.

The town of Blaydon-on-Tyne is in the North East of England within the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead. It was initially in County Durham. Referring to the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent resident population of about 15,155, which is a considerable increase from the about 14,500 citizens noted in the 2001 Census. Blaydon experienced an intensive programme of housing regeneration between 2009 and 2014. This included the establishment of new developments at High View near to the Winlaton-Blaydon border, by the riverside on the location of the former Stella South power station, and at Axwell Gardens, close to the already current Axwell Park estate. Initially, the powerhouse of the Industrial Revolution in Gateshead, Blaydon's traditional business is coal mining. A number of the town's inhabitants are involved in engineering and manufacturing, as well as having a modest number of commuting professionals. A lot of organisations work from the premises in Blaydon Haughs, generally known as 'The Spike', which is on the banks of the River Tyne. There are many shopping opportunities for people in Blaydon's shopping centre, often called the precinct. A brutalist construction from the 1970s, it incorporates the majority of the town's major retailers, which are primarily branches of commercial chain retailers, in addition to food and grocery outlets. The town also boasts a number of landmarks. Stella Hall, dating back to 1143 when there was a nunnery on the site, is a listed building, and Anxwell Hall, constructed in 1761, is set to be converted into household flats.
