Damp Proofing in Morpeth

Extensions such as garage conversions will usually require additional damp proofing to be added through the conversion, as the pre-existing garage routinely has a single skin design for walls and floors, which was not manufactured to conform to building regulations for habitable rooms. This damp proofing should be put into walls and floors. Moreover, the roof of the garage conversion will require water proofing. The damp proofing of the floor of the garage conversion will in most cases be achieved by utilising a damp proof membrane. This membrane is available in either solid or liquid form. The damp proof membrane will be placed down either on top of the existing concrete floor, below the new floor, or as part of both, depending on whether the floor will be a solid or a floating floor. In a few garages, the walls will have already been damp proofed, but this might have to be updated as part of the conversion to be able to comply with current building regulations. The walls should be damp proofed to be able to protect the brickwork from rotting gradually as moisture sets in. This can be carried out by either applying damp proof membranes, waterproof rendering, or cavity insulation, depending on the type of walls already present in the garage. Damp proofing is an important part of the building regulations that the garage conversion will need to comply with, therefore is it important to make sure that your garage conversion makes use of suitable damp proofing methods.

Morpeth

Morpeth is a town in Northumbria in the north-east of England, lying on the River Wansbeck. The 2011 census records the population of Morpeth as 14,017, which is up from the 13,833 of the 2001 census. Strangely, the name literally means 'murder path', though the case that gave rise to this rather gruesome appellation is not known. The town of Morpeth formed at an essential crossing point of the River Wansbeck. King John awarded a market charter for the town to Roger de Merlay in 1199 and to this day, the market is still hosted every Wednesday. Sport is essential in the town: Morpeth Town A.F.C., Morpeth RUFC, the cricket, hockey and tennis club and the golf club all play at a competitive level. Morpeth Harriers acts as the regional running club. The town also offers numerous opportunities to take part in sport on a non-competitive basis through facilities such as Carlisle Park, the common and the leisure centre. Storey Park football field routinely hosts Sunday League matches. Morpeth Town's football ground lies on Morpeth Common, a quick five-minute walk from Morpeth Golf Course. The traditional layout of central Morpeth includes Bridge Street and Newgate Street. The town is positioned directly on what used to be the Great North Road, the popular old coaching route between London and Edinburgh, and numerous past coaching inns are still to be found in the town, featuring the Queen's Head, the Waterford Lodge and the Black Bull. For all of your house upgrades, make certain to make use of credible experts in Morpeth to make certain of quality.

How can I tell if my property has damp?

There are a few visible signs of damp, although it often goes undetected. However, in older or empty properties, this made become detectable through its smell. These include peeling paint and wallpaper, crumbling plaster, mould growth, black spots or spores on walls and ceilings, and rotting skirting boards and flooring.

How quickly can I redecorate my walls after damp proofing has been installed?

You should make sure that all signs of damp have gone before you redecorate your walls. If you want to paint your walls with a water-permeable emulsion paint, you can usually do this after 1 or 2 months. For other types of decoration you should wait longer.
