Parquet was historically installed with each individual strip carefully laid, but modern parquet can be purchased in bigger tiles or planks to give the same appearance. Parquet floor is an exceptionally elegant flooring product which is best suited for large rooms or hallways where the appealing pattern can be best displayed. Parquet is available in numerous different styles, the most popular of which are herringbone, chevron or checkerboard. Parquet can be manufactured from an enormous range of different woods, but oak is the most common, along with mahogany, maple and cherry. Modern parquet floor may come in either solid wood or engineered wood styles, the latter of which function several layers of wood with a fibre board core and a top layer of the desired appearance of hardwood. Parquet floor is durable and requires little maintenance. It is, however, not suitable for areas that contain lots of moisture or humidity as the wood will warp or bend under these conditions. Parquet is typically installed utilising a series of tiles that are glued to the subfloor with an adhesive.
