Parquet Flooring in Basingstoke
Parquet flooring is a type of wood flooring in which small wood blocks or strips are installed together to generate a distinctive design across the whole of the floor. Parquet was historically installed with each individual strip carefully laid, but modern parquet can be bought in larger tiles or planks to give the same appearance. Parquet floor is an exceptionally elegant flooring option which is most effective in large rooms or hallways where the appealing design can be best showcased. Parquet is available in a multitude of different patterns, the most common of which are herringbone, chevron or checkerboard. Parquet may also be manufactured from an enormous range of different woods, but oak is the most popular, followed by mahogany, maple and cherry. Modern parquet floor will come in either solid wood or engineered wood styles, the latter of which incorporate several sheets of wood with a fibre board core and a top layer of the desired appearance of hardwood. Parquet flooring is durable and demands little maintenance. It is, however, not fit for areas that contain lots of moisture or humidity as the wood will warp or bend under these conditions. Parquet is often installed using a number of tiles that are fixed to the subfloor with an adhesive. A specialist parquet floor company will be able to suggest the most suitable wood types and designs for your home.
