Parquet flooring is a variety of wood flooring where small wood blocks or strips are installed alongside one another to create a distinctive pattern over the whole of the floor. Parquet was historically installed with every individual strip meticulously laid, but modern parquet can be bought in bigger tiles or planks to offer the same effect. Parquet floor is an extremely fashionable flooring option which is most effective in large rooms or hallways where the eye-catching design can be best showcased. Parquet comes in a wide variety of different styles, the most common of which are herringbone, chevron or checkerboard. Parquet can also be manufactured from a huge range of different woods, but oak is the most popular, along with mahogany, maple and cherry. Modern parquet flooring comes in either solid wood or engineered wood styles, the latter of which feature several layers of wood with a fibre board core and a top layer of the desired appearance of hardwood. Parquet floor is durable and requires little maintenance. It is, however, not suitable for areas that contain lots of moisture or humidity as the wood will warp or bend under these conditions. Parquet is generally installed by using a number of tiles which are fixed to the subfloor with an adhesive. A professional parquet floor company can suggest the most suitable wood types and designs for your home.
The typical cost of Parquet flooring is £2000. Costs differ based on the materials and the provider selected. The upper price range can be as high as £2300. The material costs are mainly approximately £500
