Extensions such as garage conversions will typically require extra damp proofing to be added during the conversion, as the existing garage normally has a single skin design for walls and floors, which was not designed to conform to building regulations for habitable rooms. This damp proofing will need to be added to walls and floors. In addition, the roofing of the garage conversion will need water proofing. The damp proofing for the floor of the garage conversion will most likely be performed by utilising a damp proof membrane. This membrane is available in either solid or liquid form. The damp proof membrane will be placed down either on top of the existing concrete floor, below the new floor, or as part of both, depending on if the floor will be a solid or a floating floor. In a few garages, the walls will have already been damp proofed, but this might have to be improved as part of the conversion to be able to adhere to current building regulations. The walls will need to be damp proofed in order to protect the brickwork from rotting gradually as moisture sets in. This is performed by either implementing damp proof membranes, waterproof rendering, or cavity insulation, depending on the type of walls that are already in the garage. Damp proofing is an important part of the building regulations that the garage conversion will need to adhere to, therefore is it vital to make sure that your garage conversion incorporates suitable damp proofing methods.
The average cost of Damp proofing is £1500. Costs vary based upon the materials and the organisation selected. The upper price range can be as high as £1725. The material costs are in general about £375

Alexandria is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. The town is positioned on the River Leven, 4 miles (6 km) north-west of Dumbarton. In 2001, the population of the town was 13,444. It is the largest town inside the Vale of Leven. Alexandria developed due to the textile sector. In 1715, the very first bleachfields in the area were started at Dalquhurn, attracting seasonal labour from Argyll. As trade between Scotland and the USA grew, cotton was increasingly imported and processed in and around Glasgow. Soon, textile work within the Vale grew from just bleaching fabric to dying and printing it as well. The town's conventional industries, above all cotton manufacturing, bleaching and printing, have been phased out. The town was redeveloped during the 1970s with a new town centre layout and traffic system. Nearby landmarks include Christie Park as well as the fountain in the town centre. Alexandria is located on the former A82 main road between Glasgow and Loch Lomond. There are frequent bus services on the route and the town features a railway station on the rail line between Balloch and Glasgow Queen Street. The town is considered to be the only UK town with a railway station and also a pub in the center of a roundabout. The writer A. J. Cronin's uncle owned a pub in Bridge Street. Alexandria Library is located on Gilmour Street. The town is home to the Vale of Leven football club, who play at Millburn Park. The club were a dominant force in early Scottish football history, winning the Scottish Cup in 1877, 1878 and 1879, and were founding members of the Scottish Football League. For all of your home improvements, make certain that you employ trustworthy specialists in Alexandria to make sure that you get the best quality service.

You should make sure that all signs of damp have gone before you redecorate your walls. If you want to paint your walls with a water-permeable emulsion paint, you can usually do this after 1 or 2 months. For other types of decoration you should wait longer.
Signs of rising damp tend to be close to the ground, usually no higher than a metre. It usually works its way up walls in horizontal lines. Penetrating damp usually develops in patches and can often be much higher up. For more advice, speak to a damp proofing professional.
There are a few visible signs of damp, although it often goes undetected. However, in older or empty properties, this made become detectable through its smell. These include peeling paint and wallpaper, crumbling plaster, mould growth, black spots or spores on walls and ceilings, and rotting skirting boards and flooring.
Damp is a serious problem, particularly if you live in an old property, because it can lead to structural damage. This will cost you big money and could be very dangerous, to yourself and the property. Take damp seriously and get it inspected and resolved as soon as you discover it!
