Canonbie
Canonbie (population 390) is a tiny town in Dumfriesshire within the regional authority location of Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland, six miles south of Langholm and two miles north of the Anglo-Scottish boundary. It is on the A7 roadway from Carlisle to Edinburgh, and also the River Esk flows via it. There are regular referrals in older documents to it as Canobie. Canonbie was eternalized in a poem by Sir Walter Scott entitled Marmion. A well-known section covers the ventures of young Lochinvar. Having actually stolen the hand of the bride of Netherby Hall, about 3 miles south of Canonbie, the dashing knight is chased after with Canonbie, yet makes good his getaway.
