Parquet Flooring in York
Parquet flooring is a sort of wood flooring in which small wood blocks or strips are installed together to produce a distinctive pattern across the entirety of the floor. Parquet was traditionally installed with every individual strip carefully laid, but modern parquet is available in bigger tiles or planks to offer the same effect. Parquet floor is an exceptionally elegant flooring product which works best in large rooms or hallways where the attractive pattern can be best exhibited. Parquet is available in numerous different patterns, the most popular of which are herringbone, chevron or checkerboard. Parquet can be manufactured from an enormous range of different woods, but oak is the most popular, along with mahogany, maple and cherry. Modern parquet floor comes in either solid wood or engineered wood types, the latter of which incorporate several sheets of wood with a fibre board core and a top layer of the desired appearance of hardwood. Parquet flooring is durable and demands little maintenance. It is, however, not fit for areas that contain lots of moisture or humidity as the wood will warp or flex under these conditions. Parquet is generally installed using a series of tiles that are fixed to the subfloor with an adhesive. A specialist parquet flooring company will be able to advise you of the most suitable wood types and styles for your home.
