Parquet Flooring in Stroud
Parquet flooring is a variety of wood flooring in which small wood blocks or strips are installed alongside one another to generate a distinctive design across the whole of the floor. Parquet was traditionally installed with every individual strip carefully laid, but modern parquet can be purchased in larger tiles or planks to offer the same appearance. Parquet floor is an extremely fashionable flooring option which is most effective in large rooms or hallways where the attractive pattern can be best exhibited. Parquet is available in a multitude of different patterns, the most common of which are herringbone, chevron or checkerboard. Parquet can also be manufactured from a wide range of different woods, but oak is the most common, along with mahogany, maple and cherry. Modern parquet floor can come in either solid wood or engineered wood styles, the latter of which function several layers of wood with a fibre board core and a top layer of the desired appearance of hardwood. Parquet floor is durable and demands little maintenance. It is, however, unsuitable for areas that contain lots of moisture or humidity as the wood will warp or flex under these conditions. Parquet is usually installed by using a number of tiles that are glued to the subfloor with an adhesive. A specialist parquet flooring company will be able to suggest the most suitable wood types and styles for your home.
