Parquet Flooring in South West
Parquet flooring is a variety of wood flooring where small wood blocks or strips are installed together to make a distinctive design across the entirety of the floor. Parquet was historically installed with every individual strip meticulously laid, but modern parquet is available in larger tiles or planks to provide the same effect. Parquet floor is an exceptionally fashionable flooring product which is best suited for large rooms or hallways where the attractive design can be best exhibited. Parquet comes in numerous different patterns, the most common of which are herringbone, chevron or checkerboard. Parquet can also be manufactured from a wide variety of different woods, but oak is the most common, accompanied by mahogany, maple and cherry. Modern parquet floor comes in either solid wood or engineered wood variations, the latter of which function several layers of wood with a fibre board core and a top layer of the desired appearance of hardwood. Parquet flooring is durable and demands little maintenance. It is, however, unsuitable for areas that contain lots of moisture or humidity as the wood will warp or bend under these conditions. Parquet is typically installed by using a number of tiles that are glued to the subfloor with an adhesive.
