Extensions including garage conversions will often require additional damp proofing to be installed through the conversion, as the existing garage normally has a single skin design for walls and floors, which was not designed to comply with building regulations for habitable rooms. This damp proofing will need to be added to walls and floors. In addition, the roofing of the garage conversion will need water proofing. The damp proofing for the floor of the garage conversion will most likely be performed by by using a damp proof membrane. This membrane can come in either solid or liquid form. The damp proof membrane will be placed down either on top of the pre-existing concrete floor, underneath the new floor, or as part of both, depending on whether the floor will be a solid or a floating floor. In some garages, the walls have already been damp proofed, but this may need to be improved as part of the conversion to be able to adhere to current building regulations. The walls should be damp proofed in order to safeguard the brickwork from rotting gradually as moisture sets in. This can be accomplished by either using damp proof membranes, waterproof rendering, or cavity insulation, depending on the type of walls that are already present in the garage. Damp proofing is a part of the building regulations that the garage conversion will need to adhere to, and so is it vital to make sure that your garage conversion employs suitable damp proofing methods.
The average cost of Damp proofing is £1500. Costs vary based upon the materials and the organisation selected. The upper price range can be as high as £1725. The material costs are in general about £375

Belvedere is a town in south east London, England inside the London Borough of Bexley. It is situated south east of Thamesmead and is located around 12 miles (19 km) southeast of Charing Cross. Belvedere was in Kent, and in terms of the postal system, remains so. It formed part of the Municipal Borough of Erith before 1965 and improvement took place prior to the Second World War, with substantial reconstruction after the Blitz. In spite of this, Upper Belvedere as well as the Village still has a great deal of its Victorian and Edwardian charm and character. Upper Belvedere is the location of a church and a number of Victorian and Edwardian brick villas. It has numerous regular pubs, restaurants and retail outlets. These include The Eardley Arms on Woolwich Road, The Vic on Victoria Street, The Royal Standard in the heart of the village along with the Fox in Belvedere village. Upper Belvedere also boasts a large park and a library which was in danger of getting closed down due to the government's cuts. Luckily closure threats have been averted as a result of the efforts with the local area. A brand new 'Splash Park', which opened its doors in 2005, was a welcome addition for the village, having been created on the site of the old Victorian paddling pool. The splash park preserves parts of the historically significant paddling pool buildings. Between 1898 and 1961, Callender's Cable Works, at the Erith Works, was patron to Callender's Cableworks Band, an amateur brass band formed of personnel from the business. The band was a successful broadcaster on BBC Radio in the 1920s and 1930s. For all of your house upgrades, make certain that you pick reputable experts in Belvedere to ensure that you get an excellent quality service.

There are a few visible signs of damp, although it often goes undetected. However, in older or empty properties, this made become detectable through its smell. These include peeling paint and wallpaper, crumbling plaster, mould growth, black spots or spores on walls and ceilings, and rotting skirting boards and flooring.
You should make sure that all signs of damp have gone before you redecorate your walls. If you want to paint your walls with a water-permeable emulsion paint, you can usually do this after 1 or 2 months. For other types of decoration you should wait longer.
Damp is a serious problem, particularly if you live in an old property, because it can lead to structural damage. This will cost you big money and could be very dangerous, to yourself and the property. Take damp seriously and get it inspected and resolved as soon as you discover it!
Signs of rising damp tend to be close to the ground, usually no higher than a metre. It usually works its way up walls in horizontal lines. Penetrating damp usually develops in patches and can often be much higher up. For more advice, speak to a damp proofing professional.
