Extensions such as garage conversions will typically require supplementary damp proofing to be installed as part of conversion, as the pre-existing garage will often have a single skin design for walls and floors, which was not built to conform to building regulations for habitable rooms. This damp proofing will have to be added to walls and floors. In addition, the roof of the garage conversion will need water proofing. The damp proofing of the floor of the garage conversion will often be achieved by by using a damp proof membrane. This membrane will come in either solid or liquid form. The damp proof membrane will be put down either on top of the existing concrete floor, underneath the new floor, or as part of both, depending on whether the floor will be a solid or a floating floor. In some garages, the walls have been damp proofed, but this might need to be improved as part of the conversion to be able to meet current building regulations. The walls will need to be damp proofed in order to protect the brickwork from rotting slowly as moisture sets in. This can be performed by either making use of damp proof membranes, waterproof rendering, or cavity insulation, depending on the type of walls that are already present in the garage. Damp proofing is a part of the building regulations that the garage conversion will need to comply with, and so is it important to ensure that your garage conversion employs suitable damp proofing methods.

Rainham belongs of the Medway Towns urban sprawl its population often consisted of under Gillingham in the unitary authority of Medway, in South East England, and part of the ritualistic area of Kent. Historically, Rainham was a different village until, in 1928, it was added to the Metropolitan Borough of Gillingham, which was initially produced in 1903 as well as was grouped into the latter's built-up area in analysis of the 2011 census by the Office for National Statistics. It entered into the Medway authority when Gillingham was integrated with the various other towns to develop Medway Unitary Authority in 1998. It has its own leisure as well as retail center and also unlike Gillingham has a traditional area extensively to the south as well as which because the late 20th century is mostly household real estate. Rainham was initially a direct settlement along the main road. The population in 1801 was 422; two centuries later on it is more than six thousand. Part of the reason for this big growth can be attributed to the railway. When the train can be found in 1858 it brought an almost immediate boost in the dimension of the town; when the Chatham Main Line was electrified in 1959, as with all the locations offered by it, community growth began again. One of the outcomes was the structure of Parkwood estate.

Damp is a serious problem, particularly if you live in an old property, because it can lead to structural damage. This will cost you big money and could be very dangerous, to yourself and the property. Take damp seriously and get it inspected and resolved as soon as you discover it!
You should make sure that all signs of damp have gone before you redecorate your walls. If you want to paint your walls with a water-permeable emulsion paint, you can usually do this after 1 or 2 months. For other types of decoration you should wait longer.
Signs of rising damp tend to be close to the ground, usually no higher than a metre. It usually works its way up walls in horizontal lines. Penetrating damp usually develops in patches and can often be much higher up. For more advice, speak to a damp proofing professional.
There are a few visible signs of damp, although it often goes undetected. However, in older or empty properties, this made become detectable through its smell. These include peeling paint and wallpaper, crumbling plaster, mould growth, black spots or spores on walls and ceilings, and rotting skirting boards and flooring.
