Extensions such as garage conversions will typically require additional damp proofing to be added during the conversion, as the pre-existing garage normally has a single skin design for walls and floors, which was not designed to comply with building regulations for habitable rooms. This damp proofing will need to be put into walls and floors. In addition, the roof of the garage conversion will require water proofing. The damp proofing of the floor of the garage conversion will most likely be performed by using a damp proof membrane. This membrane is available in either solid or liquid form. The damp proof membrane will be put down either on top of the pre-existing concrete floor, below the new floor, or as part of both, depending on whether the floor will be a solid or a floating floor. In some garages, the walls have been damp proofed, but this might have to be updated as part of the conversion in order to meet current building regulations. The walls will need to be damp proofed to be able to protect the brickwork from rotting slowly as moisture sets in. This is accomplished by either implementing damp proof membranes, waterproof rendering, or cavity insulation, depending on the type of walls that are already present in the garage. Damp proofing is an integral part of the building regulations that the garage conversion will need to adhere to, therefore is it vital to make sure that your garage conversion incorporates suitable damp proofing methods.
The average cost of Damp proofing is £1500. Costs vary based upon the materials and the organisation selected. The upper price range can be as high as £1725. The material costs are in general about £375

Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London within the London Borough of Bexley. It is north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It is separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established following the sale of land in 1881 to create the Bexleyheath loop line between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name hails from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a nearby property and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Now, the railway station runs trains between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, via Lewisham and Eltham towards the west and Dartford railway station to the east. There are 12 trains each hour in the course of the week; on Sundays, there are 4 trains each hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the construction of homes. The Barnehurst Estate was built in 1926 which housed a lot of individuals.
As well as the railway station, Barnehurst is served by 5 buses, 1 of which goes to the well-liked Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are limited buying or leisure opportunities inside the town, so people usually visit surrounding places using public transport links or the main roads.
Barnehurst is home towards the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.

Signs of rising damp tend to be close to the ground, usually no higher than a metre. It usually works its way up walls in horizontal lines. Penetrating damp usually develops in patches and can often be much higher up. For more advice, speak to a damp proofing professional.
You should make sure that all signs of damp have gone before you redecorate your walls. If you want to paint your walls with a water-permeable emulsion paint, you can usually do this after 1 or 2 months. For other types of decoration you should wait longer.
There are a few visible signs of damp, although it often goes undetected. However, in older or empty properties, this made become detectable through its smell. These include peeling paint and wallpaper, crumbling plaster, mould growth, black spots or spores on walls and ceilings, and rotting skirting boards and flooring.
Damp is a serious problem, particularly if you live in an old property, because it can lead to structural damage. This will cost you big money and could be very dangerous, to yourself and the property. Take damp seriously and get it inspected and resolved as soon as you discover it!
