Guisborough
Guisborough is a market town and civil parish in the English county of North Yorkshire. It is within a unitary authority of Redcar and Cleveland, and in the Trees Valley area of the North East of England. Chiefly for ritualistic purposes, it is in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire. Held every Thursday and Saturday, and even on Tuesdays with the presence of a few stalls, Guisborough market has had a popular place in the history of the town. Initially offering predominately cattle and animals, the market slowly changed into a more regular market for such items as vegetables and fruit, clothing and flower stalls. It is held from the early morning to late afternoon on the cobbles that line Westgate, the principal shopping street. Due to its location close to the ironstone mines of the North York Moors, the town also had a share in the prosperity of the Industrial Revolution. In accordance with the 2011 Census, the permanent population of the town is around 17777. Significant residential development came about during the 1960s and 1970s with the growth of the chemical industry at Wilton and the steel sector at Redcar. Without any sizeable companies in the town, the town has come to be a commuter town for Middlesbrough, with numerous inhabitants working in the chemical plants scattered around Teeside. Guisborough has a King George's Field in memory of King George V, and the town's football team, Guisborough Town F.C., plays on the King George V Ground. There is also a playing field including a play area and a skate park, and a swimming pool from has been found in the park since 1968.
