The London Borough of Enfield is a London borough in north London with a few districts within the borough straddling north-east London, England. It borders the London Boroughs of Barnet (to the west), Haringey (towards the south) and Waltham Forest (to the south-east), the districts of Hertsmere (to the north-west), Welwyn Hatfield and Broxbourne (both towards the north) in Hertfordshire, and Epping Forest (towards the east) in Essex. The local authority is Enfield Council. It covers a total area of 31.74 square miles.
Based on population estimates from the middle of 2014, the borough includes a permanent population of about 324574 inhabitants. The armorial bearings of these three boroughs had been also merged. The heraldic beast on the shield of the Enfield coat of arms is recognised in heraldry as an 'Enfield', or more colloquially as the 'Enfield beast', and it's utilised extensively as a logo representing Enfield, particularly by the borough council. The Borough's Civic Centre is located in Silver Street, Enfield Town and is home to the Council. Enfield Town is also home to the local credit union, North London Credit Union.
In 2007, Enfield Town centre completed a significant redevelopment project. An extension was added onto the existing retail area with numerous new shops. In addition to this, a significant redevelopment of Edmonton Green, including the shopping centre, an adjacent municipal housing over a wide area, started in 1999 in order to provide new housing, health facilities, a new leisure centre, a supermarket, and lots of other civic features.
