Parquet Flooring in Wickford
Parquet flooring is a sort of wood flooring where small wood blocks or strips are installed alongside one another to generate a distinctive design across the whole of the floor. Parquet was historically installed with each individual strip carefully laid, but modern parquet is available in bigger tiles or planks to give the same appearance. Parquet floor is a very fashionable flooring product which works best in large rooms or hallways where the attractive pattern can be best displayed. Parquet is available in a multitude of different patterns, the most common of which are herringbone, chevron or checkerboard. Parquet can be manufactured from a massive array of different woods, but oak is the most common, along with mahogany, maple and cherry. Modern parquet floor comes in either solid wood or engineered wood variations, the latter of which feature several sheets of wood with a fibre board core and a top layer of the desired appearance of hardwood. Parquet floor is durable and requires little maintenance. It is, however, not suitable for areas that contain lots of moisture or humidity as the wood will warp or flex under these conditions. Parquet is typically installed using a series of tiles that are glued to the subfloor with an adhesive. A specialist parquet flooring company can recommend the most appropriate wood types and designs for your home.
