Parquet flooring is a type of wood flooring where small wood blocks or strips are installed together to produce a distinctive pattern over the entirety of the floor. Parquet was historically installed with each individual strip meticulously laid, but modern parquet can be purchased in larger tiles or planks to offer the same effect. Parquet floor is an exceptionally stylish flooring product which is most effective in large rooms or hallways where the eye-catching design can be best showcased. Parquet is available in numerous different patterns, the most common of which are herringbone, chevron or checkerboard. Parquet may also be manufactured from a huge array of different woods, but oak is the most common, accompanied by mahogany, maple and cherry. Modern parquet floor will come in either solid wood or engineered wood varieties, the latter of which function several sheets of wood with a fibre board core and a top layer of the desired appearance of hardwood. Parquet flooring is durable and requires little maintenance. It is, however, not suitable for areas that contain lots of moisture or humidity as the wood will warp or bend under these conditions. Parquet is commonly installed by using a series of tiles which are fixed to the subfloor with an adhesive.
