Spean Bridge
Spean Bridge is a village in the parish of Kilmonivaig, in Lochaber in the Highland region of Scotland. The village takes its name from the Highbridge over the River Spean on General Wade's military road between Ft William and Fort Augustus, as well as not from Telford's bridge of 1819 which brings the A82 over the river at the heart of the town. Hing on the Great Glen, Spean Bridge has transportation links north in the direction of Inverness as well as southern to Ft William, provided by the A82, and also the A86 heads eastern to sign up with the A9 at Kingussie. The village is offered by the Spean Bridge train station offering links to Glasgow, London, and Mallaig and in between 1903 and also 1933 it offered a branch line solution to Ft Augustus. The Highbridge Altercation on 16 August 1745 was the initial interaction of the Jacobite Increasing of 1745. The Commando Memorial, committed to the men of the original British Commando Forces raised during 2nd World War, lies about 1 mile (1.6 km) north-west of Spean Bridge, at the joint of the A82 as well as the B8004. It overlooks the training locations of the Commando Training Depot established in 1942 at Achnacarry Castle.
