Parquet Flooring in South Shields
Parquet flooring is a type of wood flooring where small wood blocks or strips are installed together to create a distinctive pattern across the whole of the floor. Parquet was traditionally installed with every individual strip carefully laid, but modern parquet can be bought in larger tiles or planks to give the same appearance. Parquet floor is a very elegant flooring solution which is best suited for large rooms or hallways where the eye-catching design can be best showcased. Parquet is available in numerous different patterns, the most common of which are herringbone, chevron or checkerboard. Parquet can be manufactured from a massive selection of different woods, but oak is the most common, along with mahogany, maple and cherry. Modern parquet flooring will come in either solid wood or engineered wood types, the latter of which incorporate several layers of wood with a fibre board core and a top layer of the desired appearance of hardwood. Parquet floor is durable and needs little maintenance. It is, however, not suitable for areas that contain lots of moisture or humidity as the wood will warp or bend under these conditions. Parquet is commonly installed using a series of tiles that are fixed to the subfloor with an adhesive. A specialist parquet flooring company will be able to suggest the most suitable wood types and designs for your home.
