Parquet Flooring in Gateshead
Parquet flooring is a sort of wood flooring in which small wood blocks or strips are installed alongside one another to generate a distinctive design over the whole of the floor. Parquet was historically installed with every individual strip carefully laid, but modern parquet can be purchased in larger tiles or planks to give the same effect. Parquet floor is a very fashionable flooring option which works best in large rooms or hallways where the attractive design can be best showcased. Parquet is available in a wide variety of different styles, the most popular of which are herringbone, chevron or checkerboard. Parquet can also be manufactured from a massive array of different woods, but oak is the most common, followed by mahogany, maple and cherry. Modern parquet floor will come in either solid wood or engineered wood variations, the latter of which incorporate several layers of wood with a fibre board core and a top layer of the desired appearance of hardwood. Parquet flooring is durable and demands little maintenance. It is, however, unsuitable for areas that contain lots of moisture or humidity as the wood will warp or bend under these conditions. Parquet is commonly installed using a series of tiles which are fixed to the subfloor with an adhesive. A specialist parquet flooring company will be able to suggest the most appropriate wood types and styles for your home.
