Parquet flooring is a variety of wood flooring where small wood blocks or strips are installed together to generate a distinctive design across the entirety of the floor. Parquet was historically installed with every individual strip painstakingly laid, but modern parquet is available in larger tiles or planks to offer the same appearance. Parquet floor is a very fashionable flooring solution which works best in large rooms or hallways where the attractive pattern can be best exhibited. Parquet is available in a wide variety of different patterns, the most popular of which are herringbone, chevron or checkerboard. Parquet can be manufactured from a massive range of different woods, but oak is the most common, followed by mahogany, maple and cherry. Modern parquet floor can come in either solid wood or engineered wood types, the latter of which function several layers of wood with a fibre board core and a top layer of the desired appearance of hardwood. Parquet flooring is durable and needs little maintenance. It is, however, not fit for areas that contain lots of moisture or humidity as the wood will warp or bend under these conditions. Parquet is generally installed utilising a number of tiles which are fixed to the subfloor with an adhesive.
