Carrbridge
Carrbridge is a village in Badenoch and Strathspey in the Scottish Highlands. It exists off the A9 on the A938, west of Skye of Curr, southeast of Tomatin, near Bogroy. It has the earliest rock bridge in the Highlands and the neighboring old want forest includes the Landmark Forest Adventure Park. Carrbridge has to do with 10 kilometres (6 mi) north of Aviemore and also forms a gateway to the Cairngorms National Forest. It was an early centre for winter sports in Scotland. In the 2001 census the village had a population of 708 people, with the majority used in tourism. Till the 1980s bypass was constructed, the A9 ran right with the town. Carrbridge is served by Carrbridge railway station on the Highland Main Line. Local debate still rages pertaining to the name Carrbridge itself, with some favoring to see it hyphenated to Carr-bridge. The word "Carr" has nothing to do with motorised transport however is stemmed from the Old Norse word for boggy area.
