Extensions such as garage conversions will often require extra damp proofing to be added through the conversion, as the existing garage typically has a single skin design for walls and floors, which was not designed to conform to building regulations for habitable rooms. This damp proofing should be added to walls and floors. Additionally, the roofing of the garage conversion will require water proofing. The damp proofing for the floor of the garage conversion will most likely be achieved by using a damp proof membrane. This membrane can come in either solid or liquid form. The damp proof membrane will be placed down either on top of the existing concrete floor, underneath the new floor, or as part of both, depending on whether the floor will be a solid or a floating floor. In some garages, the walls will have already been damp proofed, but this may have to be improved as part of the conversion to be able to comply with current building regulations. The walls should be damp proofed in order to safeguard the brickwork from rotting gradually as moisture sets in. This can be performed by either applying damp proof membranes, waterproof rendering, or cavity insulation, depending on the type of walls already present in the garage. Damp proofing is an important part of the building regulations that the garage conversion should adhere to, and so is it vital to make sure that your garage conversion employs suitable damp proofing methods.
The average cost of Damp proofing is £1500. Costs vary based upon the materials and the organisation selected. The upper price range can be as high as £1725. The material costs are in general about £375

Henley-on-Thames is a town and civil parish on the River Thames in the English county of Oxfordshire. It is situated about 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Reading and 7 miles west of Maidenhead. One of its limits has the tripoint of Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. It encompasses an area of around 2.15 square miles. In accordance with the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of around 11619 people. The very first record of Henley is from 1179, when it is recorded that King Henry II 'had bought land for the making of buildings'. King John offered the manor of Benson and the town and manor of Henley to Robert Harcourt in 1199. The existing Thursday market, it is believed, was permitted by a charter of King John. A market was undeniably in existence by 1269, although the jurors of the assize of 1284 declared to not know by what warrant the earl of Cornwall held a market and fair in the town of Henley. The existing Corpus Christi fair was approved by a charter of Henry VI. Henley is a world-renowned centre for rowing. Each summer, the yearly Henley Royal Regatta is celebrated on Henley Reach, which is a naturally straight length of the river just north of the town. It was extended synthetically. The gathering ended up being 'Royal' in 1851, when Prince Albert became patron of the regatta. The River and Rowing Museum, based in Mill Meadows, is the town's one museum. It was set up in 1998, and formally opened by Queen Elizabeth II. The museum, created by the designer David Chipperfield, contains information on the River Thames, the sport of rowing, and the town of Henley itself. For all your home developments, be sure to find respected professionals in Henley-on-Thames to make certain of quality.

Damp is a serious problem, particularly if you live in an old property, because it can lead to structural damage. This will cost you big money and could be very dangerous, to yourself and the property. Take damp seriously and get it inspected and resolved as soon as you discover it!
Signs of rising damp tend to be close to the ground, usually no higher than a metre. It usually works its way up walls in horizontal lines. Penetrating damp usually develops in patches and can often be much higher up. For more advice, speak to a damp proofing professional.
There are a few visible signs of damp, although it often goes undetected. However, in older or empty properties, this made become detectable through its smell. These include peeling paint and wallpaper, crumbling plaster, mould growth, black spots or spores on walls and ceilings, and rotting skirting boards and flooring.
You should make sure that all signs of damp have gone before you redecorate your walls. If you want to paint your walls with a water-permeable emulsion paint, you can usually do this after 1 or 2 months. For other types of decoration you should wait longer.
