Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London in the London Borough of Bexley. It's north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It's separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established following the sale of land in 1881 to create the Bexleyheath loop line between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name originates from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a local house and was vice-chairman of the railway company. These days, the railway station runs trains between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, via Lewisham and Eltham to the west and Dartford railway station towards the east. There are 12 trains per hour for the duration of the week; on Sundays, there are 4 trains every hour. The railway station was openedto stimulate the construction of houses. The Barnehurst Estate was built in 1926 which housed lots of individuals.
In addition to the railway station, Barnehurst is served by five buses, one of which goes to the popular Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are few shopping or leisure opportunities in the town, so people frequently visit surrounding areas working with public transport links or the main roads.
Barnehurst is property for the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
