Barnehurst
Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London within the London Borough of Bexley. It is north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It's separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established following the sale of land in 1881 to construct the Bexleyheath loop line between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name stems from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a local property and was vice-chairman of the railway company. These days, the railway station runs trains in between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, through Lewisham and Eltham to the west and Dartford railway station towards the east. There are 12 trains per hour throughout the week; on Sundays, there are four trains per hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the building of homes. The Barnehurst Estate was constructed in 1926 which housed lots of people.
As well as the railway station, Barnehurst is served by 5 buses, 1 of which goes to the well-liked Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are hardly any buying or leisure opportunities in the town, so individuals often go to surrounding places making use of public transport links or the primary roads.
Barnehurst is house to the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
