Fencing in Heckmondwike

Are you interested in getting fencing installed in Heckmondwike? With the Quotatis service you're able to contrast up to 4 fencing contractors in order to get the top deal available for the task you want.

Fencing is really important for all households no matter whether it's the front or back garden. From restoration work to a complete installation of new fencing, using a reliable company is highly recommended to get the best price available.

Fencing work as a boundary to our households and with an installation you'll increase protection to your home and prevent easy access to your back garden. Back garden fences are traditionally close to 6 feet high, which instantly will make it harder for intruders to gain entry.

Decorative fences or wooden picket fencing are usually most suited for the front garden, where security isn't as vital. Instead, you're more likely to select a front garden fence specifically for design and also to add something different.

For whatever type of fencing you're looking to have installed, make sure you make use of our totally free and no obligation service to get the best deal available in Heckmondwike.

Situated at the edge of the Pennine hills, the land climbs to the north, east and south of the town centre. In total, the area covered by the town is 1 square mile. According to the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of around 16986, which has decreased slightly from the 17066 recorded in the 2001 Census. The records of the Poll Tax of 1379 usefully reveals that there was a total of 7 families living in Heckmondwike, which consisted of 35 people. The bulk lived in detached farms, such as Stubley Farm, where they would be on high ground overlooking the marshy Spen Valley floor. By 1684, it is believed that there were around 250 people in the town, with the presence of around 50 houses. During the course of the course of the 19th century, the town developed a track record for the manufacture of blankets. By 1811, the Blanket Hall was completed to enrich trade in the town's essential manufacture. It was replaced by another hall in 1839 on Blanket Hall Street, although the remains of the initial hall stayed in the town till the spring of 2008 when a range of old buildings were demolished. The remains of the Power Company buildings, however, continue to exist in the town, in spite of the fact that the town stopped producing electricity in 1924. FAQs

Do I need to tell my neighbours if I’m going to replace my fence?

It’s a good idea to talk to your neighbours before you start any work to avoid confusion along the way. But if the fence is definitely your responsibility and on your property, there’s no legal obligation to notify them. It’s also a myth that you need to erect a fence with the flush side without posts facing your neighbour’s property.

Do I need to dispose of the old fencing myself?

Most responsible contractors will dispose of the old fencing via an approved commercial waste site. Do check that the cost of taking rubbish away is included in the quotes you receive, otherwise you might find you get stung when it comes to paying for the work.

Do I need planning permission for fences?

Not if they are under 1 metre high if next to a road or 2 metres high elsewhere. It’s always recommended to check with your neighbours and the local authority if you are unsure. Other restrictions may apply, for example if a fence might impact driver visibility on nearby roads.

How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
