It is located 9 miles south west of Leeds. Historically a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is also close to Cleckheaton and Liversedge. The remains of the Power Company buildings, however, continue to exist in the town, despite the fact that the town stopped generating electricity in 1924.
