Fencing in Hawick

Are you considering having fencing installed in Hawick? By using the Quotatis service you are able to check up to 4 fence companies to get the top deal available for the task you want.

Fencing is really important for all houses no matter whether it's the front or back garden. From repair work to a full installation of new fencing, working with a respected company is highly recommended to get the best price available.

Fences act as a boundary to our properties and with an installation you'll add more security to your home preventing easy access to the back garden. Back garden fences are typically around 6 feet high, which right away will make it more difficult for intruders to gain access.

Decorative fences or wooden picket fencing tend to be most suited for the front garden, where security isn't as paramount. Instead, you're more likely to opt for a front garden fence specifically for design and to add something different.

For whatever sort of fencing you're looking to have installed, make certain to make use of our totally free and no obligation service to get the best deal available in Hawick.

Hawick

The town of Hawick is in the Scottish Borders council region and in the historical county of Roxburghshire in the east Southern Uplands of Scotland. It is set 10 miles southwest of Jedburgh and 8.9 miles south southeast of Selkirk. It is one of the towns with the most distance from the sea in Scotland, in the centre of Teviotdale, and covers an area of 1.9 square miles. In accordance with the 2011 Census, Hawick has a population of around 14294, marginally decreasing from the 14801 residents documented in the 2001 Census. It is, however, the biggest town in the past county of Roxburghshire. The town is known as being the home of firms producing a few of the most luxurious cashmere and merino wool knitwear worldwide today, such as Hawick Cashmere, Hawick Knitwear, Johnstons of Elgin, Lyle and Scott, Peter Scott, Pringle of Scotland and Scott and Charters. Traditionally a town founded in linen, the first knitting machine was obtained in 1771 and wool factories started to increase, which induced the development of the town. Additionally based in the town is the Hawick Rugby Football Club and a senior football team, Hawick Royal Albert, which plays in the East of Scotland Football League. Traditionally, the Hawick Baw game was played by the 'uppies' and the 'doonies' on the first Monday after the new moon every February, with the pitch for the game being created by the town's river. A striking element of much of the architecture in Hawick to visitors is the distinctive slate roofs on many of its structures. FAQs

Can I attach something to my neighbour’s fence?

There are a number of reasons why disputes can arise between neighbours – all of which can be quite frustrating and challenging. In some cases, this can even cause serious friction and lead to an all-out war. When it comes to the topic of fencing, one of the most common questions that arises is whether or not you can attach something to your neighbour’s fence. If you’re having the same concern, then you’ve come to the right place. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into this to help you make informed decisions moving forward. Let’s take a look!

The short and simple answer to this question is no, you can’t attach anything to your neighbour’s fence. If your neighbour owns the fence and you’ve not obtained any permission to do so, then you’re not allowed to attach anything to the fence. Otherwise, you can get into serious trouble with your neighbour as well as the law. If you want to attach something or have the wall on your side painted using another colour, then there’s the need to get a permission from the owner. And while doing so, make sure you’re provided with a written permission so as to avoid problems later in the future.

Another question that mostly arises is what if your neighbour declines your request, is there anything you can do about it? Well, the answer to this is no, there’s nothing you can do about it unless you’re able to convince your neighbour otherwise. And you should know starting a neighbour war or being spiteful can only make matters worse for you.

What types of garden fencing are available?

There are quite a few different types of garden fencing that are readily available, so you’ll have plenty to choose from. If you’ve got a strict budget, waney edge panel fencing is a good option. It’s made up of horizontal wood strips and is generally the cheapest type of fencing. Another good option is closed feather-edge panels. These are a really strong type of fence, made up of concrete posts and panels of vertical strips of wood. You can also get more decorative types of fencing with combinations of vertical and horizontal wood strips.

Fence ownership: who owns that garden fence?

When it comes to fence ownership and responsibility, this is often a subject of dispute between neighbours and understandably so. Owning a fence comes with a number of responsibilities such as arranging and paying for the maintenance and more. Therefore, if you’re not yet sure who owns the garden fence, then you’d probably want to have that sorted to make sure your property stays protected at all times. In this post, we’re going to give you an insight into some of the rules guiding fence ownership in order to help you make informed decisions. Let’s take a look!

There’s no rule of thumb on whether you own the fence on the right hand or the left hand side of your property. Therefore, if you’ve heard any “rules that states otherwise, you can fling that out the window because not everyone will own the left hand side to their fence. The first way to determine who owns the garden fence or which side of the fence you’re responsible for is simply by looking. Although this is not guaranteed or a definite way to determine ownership, it can go a long way to give you a good idea. As you would have expected, fences are most likely built on the land that belongs to the boundary’s owner with the further edge of the fence making the actual boundary. As a result, you can determine a fence ownership simply by identifying where the frames are.

Also, you can determine fence ownership using the title deeds for an official and accurate answer. A copy should be given alongside your paperwork which is received when purchasing your house.

How do I find out who owns a fence?

Speaking to the owners of the neighbouring properties is recommended. If you are still unsure, you may need to check the original deeds to the property. Generally the rule is that you are responsible for the fence at the right hand side of your property.
