Haverhill

Haverhill is a market town and civil parish in the county of Suffolk. It is located on the borders of Essex and Cambridgeshire, sitting 14 miles south-east of Cambridgeshire and 47 miles north-east of central London. The town centre lies at the base of a dip in the chalk hills of the Newmarket Ridge, and the Stour Brook, which eventually joins the River Stour away from the town, passes through Haverhill. It is the second biggest town in the Borough of St. Edmundsbury, with a population of 27041. Although the town is surrounded by arable land, the economy is dominated by industry, due to the large industrial estate and a business park including numerous manufacturing companies in the south of the town. It is also the home of scientific firms and various waste processing, transport and construction firms. As a result of planning reviews completed in 1956 and 1962, striving to relocate families from London who had lost their houses amid World War II, Haverhill has progressively grown in the post-war period, with a quick threefold rise in population from the population of 5446 in 1962. Haverhill is referred to as a contemporary and young town. It has 2 Non-League football clubs, Haverhill Rovers F. C. and Haverhill Borough F. C., a baseball team, and various sporting activities are readily available at a leisure centre containing a swimming pool, a health club and a kids's soft play area.
