Great Dunmow is a historic market town as well as civil parish in the Uttlesford district of Essex, England. It is positioned on the north of the A120 road, around midway in between Bishop's Stortford and Braintree, 6 miles east of London Stansted Airport. Originally the site of a Roman negotiation on Stane Street, the town thrived throughout the Middle Ages. Several structures survive from this duration, including a sixteenth-century city center. Dunmow implies "Meadow on the Hill". [4] The negotiation was variously described as Dunmow Magna, Much Dunmow, or most typically Great Dunmow. Great Dunmow surrounds the former estate of Easton Lodge in the neighbouring parish of Little Easton, a country house coming from the Maynard family. One of the most notable participant, Frances Maynard, became the Countess of Warwick and also later a girlfriend of King Edward VII. As the Prince of Wales he was apparently a normal visitor to the Estate, travelling from London on the train to Easton Lodge train station. The initials "CW" show up on a number of Victorian period residential properties in Great Dunmow. Referred To As Daisy Greville, Countess of Warwick she was a charitable philanthropist in the neighborhood community. As of 2018, Robert Nicholson is Emeritus Mayor of Great Dunmow.
