Nantwich
Nantwich is a market town and civil parish in the Borough of Cheshire East and the county of Cheshire, England. It is found on the Cheshire Plain, on the edges of the River Weaver. The Shropshire Union Canal flows through to the west of the town on an embankment, crossing the A534 by using an iron aqueduct, with the basin being a preferred mooring for visitors to the town. Nantwich is around four miles south-west of Crewe and 20 miles south-east of Chester. In accordance with the 2011 census, Nantwich has a permanent population of about 17424 and is host to a wide range of different occasions held throughout the year. The International Cheese Awards are completed in Nantwich as a part of Nantwich Show, which is an annual farming show held at the Dorfold Hall estate in July. The 83000 square foot marquee that contains the awards has had up to 4425 separate cheese entries from a minimum of 26 countries. Another noteworthy event incorporating food is the yearly Nantwich Food Festival, which occurs in the town centre over the first weekend in September. Restored as a free-entry event in 2010, the festival draws numerous artisan producers from both the local area and further afield, and provides chef presentations, family activities and entertainment. It attracts roughly 30000 visitors a year. The town is known for having the largest collection of historic buildings in the county. Most of the listed buildings can be found in the town centre, set within the 38 hectares (94 acres) of conservation area, which largely follows the borders of the late middle ages and early post-medieval town.
