Mauchline
Mauchline is a town as well as civil parish in East Ayrshire, Scotland. In the 2001 census Mauchline had a recorded population of 4,105. The community lies by the Glasgow and South Western Railway line, 8 miles (13 km) eastern south east of Kilmarnock and 11 miles (18 km) north east of Ayr. It is situated on a gentle slope regarding 1 mile (1.6 kilometres)) from the River Ayr, which streams with the south of the church of Mauchline. In former days Loch Brown was about 1 mile west of the town, however was drained pipes when the train line from Kilmarnock was developed. Bruntwood Loch, near the old laird's home of that name, was once an important site for waterfowl, yet drained pipes for agriculture in the 18th century.
