Parquet Flooring in Cambridge
Parquet flooring is a kind of wood flooring where small wood blocks or strips are installed together to create a distinctive pattern over the whole of the floor. Parquet was historically installed with each individual strip carefully laid, but modern parquet can be bought in bigger tiles or planks to provide the same appearance. Parquet floor is an exceptionally stylish flooring product which is best suited for large rooms or hallways where the attractive pattern can be best displayed. Parquet comes in a multitude of different styles, the most popular of which are herringbone, chevron or checkerboard. Parquet can also be manufactured from a huge array of different woods, but oak is the most common, followed by mahogany, maple and cherry. Modern parquet floor comes in either solid wood or engineered wood varieties, the latter of which incorporate several layers of wood with a fibre board core and a top layer of the desired appearance of hardwood. Parquet floor is durable and needs little maintenance. It is, however, unsuitable for areas that contain lots of moisture or humidity as the wood will warp or bend under these conditions. Parquet is typically installed by using a number of tiles which are fixed to the subfloor with an adhesive. An experienced parquet floor company can advise you of the most appropriate wood types and styles for your home.
