Damp Proofing in Westerham

Extensions such as garage conversions will typically require supplementary damp proofing to be installed as part of conversion, as the existing garage normally has a single skin design for walls and floors, which was not built to be in accordance with building regulations for habitable rooms. This damp proofing should be added to walls and floors. In addition, the roofing of the garage conversion will require water proofing. The damp proofing for the floor of the garage conversion will most likely be achieved by utilising a damp proof membrane. This membrane is available in either solid or liquid form. The damp proof membrane will be placed down either on top of the pre-existing concrete floor, underneath the new floor, or as part of both, depending on if the floor will be a solid or a floating floor. In some garages, the walls have already been damp proofed, but this may have to be improved as part of the conversion in order to adhere to current building regulations. The walls should be damp proofed to be able to protect the brickwork from rotting gradually as moisture sets in. This is carried out by either applying damp proof membranes, waterproof rendering, or cavity insulation, depending on the type of walls that are already in the garage. Damp proofing is an integral part of the building regulations that the garage conversion should comply with, therefore is it vital to ensure that your garage conversion makes use of appropriate damp proofing methods.

Westerham

Westerham is a town as well as civil parish in the Sevenoaks District of Kent, England, situated 5 miles (8 km) west of Sevenoaks. It is recorded as early as the 9th century, and was pointed out in the Domesday Book in a Norman type, Oistreham (contrast Ouistreham in Normandy, Oistreham in 1086). Ham is Old English for a village or homestead, therefore Westerham indicates a westerly homestead. The River Darent flows with the town, and also formerly powered 3 watermills. Westerham was home to the Black Eagle Brewery, which was taken control of by Taylor Walker & Co in the 1950s, becoming part of Ind Coope in 1959 as well as enclosing 1965. Yeast from the brewery was preserved at the National Collection of Yeast Societies and is now used by the present day Westerham Brewery which was established in 2004 by Robert Wicks. The brewery produces a range of ales, consisting of Westerham British Bulldog. Westerham was residence to Crayford Engineering, an effective cars and truck conversion firm, from 1962 to the 1980s, functioning from a workshop at Squerryes Mede.
