Damp in gable wall. We would like an expert opinion of why and what needs to be done to rectify it.
Extensions including garage conversions will often require supplementary damp proofing to be installed as part of conversion, as the pre-existing garage will often have a single skin design for walls and floors, which was not built to conform to building regulations for habitable rooms. This damp proofing should be put into walls and floors. In addition, the roofing of the garage conversion will require water proofing. The damp proofing of the floor of the garage conversion will often be achieved by employing a damp proof membrane. This membrane is available in either solid or liquid form. The damp proof membrane will be placed down either on top of the existing concrete floor, underneath the new floor, or as part of both, depending on whether the floor will be a solid or a floating floor. In a few garages, the walls have been damp proofed, but this might have to be improved as part of the conversion to be able to comply with current building regulations. The walls should be damp proofed to be able to safeguard the brickwork from rotting slowly as moisture sets in. This is accomplished by either applying damp proof membranes, waterproof rendering, or cavity insulation, depending on the type of walls that are already present in the garage. Damp proofing is a part of the building regulations that the garage conversion should comply with, and so is it important to ensure that your garage conversion employs appropriate damp proofing methods.
The average cost of Damp proofing is £1500. Costs vary based upon the materials and the organisation selected. The upper price range can be as high as £1725. The material costs are in general about £375

Inverurie is a Royal Burgh and town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It lies at the convergence of the rivers Ury and Don, roughly 16 miles (26 km) north west of Aberdeen. According to the 2001 Census, the town has a permanent population of about 10885. Inverurie's earliest known charter go back to 1558, with its modern-day growth happening subsequent to the structure of the Aberdeenshire Canal. This linked Port Elphinstone with Aberdeen Harbour in 1806. The Inverurie Locomotive Works, operating in between 1905 and 1969, brought on a modest rise in size and prosperity, however it was not until the 'Oil Boom' of the last quarter of the 20th century that the town became much of what is recognised as its present form. The town centre is triangular and is overlooked by the grand Town Hall, which was built in 1862. In the middle of the 'square', as it is known regionally, is the Inverurie and District War Memorial, capped by a lone Gordon Highlander watching out over the town. The primary shopping areas include the Market Place and West High Street, which branch off from the centre to the more residential part of the town. Lately, Inverurie has actually seen a progressing range of Aberdeen commuters going to live there, making it considered as 'the fastest growing town in Great Britain'. The town has a number of transportation links contributing to its attraction as a place in which to commute from, being located on the A96 road and served by Inverurie train station on the Aberdeen to Inverness Line. The nearest airport is Aberdeen Airport at Dyce. For all of your home enhancements, make certain to find reputable experts in Inverurie to make certain of quality.

Signs of rising damp tend to be close to the ground, usually no higher than a metre. It usually works its way up walls in horizontal lines. Penetrating damp usually develops in patches and can often be much higher up. For more advice, speak to a damp proofing professional.
There are a few visible signs of damp, although it often goes undetected. However, in older or empty properties, this made become detectable through its smell. These include peeling paint and wallpaper, crumbling plaster, mould growth, black spots or spores on walls and ceilings, and rotting skirting boards and flooring.
You should make sure that all signs of damp have gone before you redecorate your walls. If you want to paint your walls with a water-permeable emulsion paint, you can usually do this after 1 or 2 months. For other types of decoration you should wait longer.
Damp is a serious problem, particularly if you live in an old property, because it can lead to structural damage. This will cost you big money and could be very dangerous, to yourself and the property. Take damp seriously and get it inspected and resolved as soon as you discover it!
