Southwark
The London Borough of Southwark in south London, England forms part of Inner London and is connected by bridges across the River Thames to the City of London. It was formed in 1965 when 3 smaller council places amalgamated under the London Government Act 1963. This included the former area of the Metropolitan Borough of Southwark, the Metropolitan Borough of Camberwell, as well as the Metropolitan Borough of Bermondsey. It's controlled by Southwark London Borough Council.
The borough covers a total area of around 11.14 square miles. To the south are the London Boroughs of Bromley and Croydon. As outlined by population estimates produced part way through 2014, Southwark has a permanent population of around 302538 inhabitants.
The borough is residence to numerous cultural, historical and notable attractions. The Shard, Tate Modern, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, and Borough Market that are the biggest of the venues in Southwark to draw domestic and international tourism. Dulwich houses the Dulwich Picture Gallery and the Imperial War Museum in Elephant and Castle.
