Wells-next-the-sea

Wells-next-the-Sea is a village and port on the North Norfolk shore of England. The civil parish has an area of 16.31 km2 (6.30 sq mi) and in 2001 had a population of 2,451, decreasing to 2,165 at the 2011 Census. Wells is 15 miles (24 kilometres) to the eastern of the hotel of Hunstanton, 20 miles (32 km) to the west of Cromer, and also 10 miles (16 kilometres) north of Fakenham. The city of Norwich lies 32 miles (51 km) to the south-east. Nearby villages include Blakeney, Burnham Market, Burnham Thorpe, Holkham as well as Walsingham. The North Sea is now a mile from the community; the primary channel which once wandered with marshes, foraged by lamb for centuries, was constrained by earthworks to the west in 1859 when Holkham Estate recovered some 800 hectares of saltmarsh north-west of Wells with the building of a mile-long bank. This improvement was declared to have reduced the tidal search though the West Fleet which provided a lot of the water entered the channel to its north.Because the town has no river running through it, it depends on the trends to comb the harbour. The issue of siltation had busied the merchants of the community for centuries and also occupied the attentions of various designers, leading at some point to disputes which concerned court in the 18th century. Sir John Coode, who had actually been knighted for his service the conclusion of Portland harbour was recruited to fix its siltation problems in the 1880s. No tried solution confirmed long-term. The growth of faster aquatic website traffic whose wake washes at the banks of the marshes has actually widened the network and also lowered tidal flow even more. The community has been a seaport since before the fourteenth century when it provided grain to London as well as consequently to the miners of the north eastern in return for which Wells was supplied with coal. Until the nineteenth century, it was easier to bring bulk freights by sea than overland. Wells was likewise a fishing port: in 1337 it is recorded as having had thirteen fishing boats; next door Holkham had 9. Its sailors brought first herring and then cod from Iceland in quantity between the fifteenth as well as seventeenth centuries. The regulation of the harbour in order to maintain its usage was by Act of Parliament in 1663; and also in 1769 Harbour Commissioners were appointed with powers over vessels getting in and leaving (as they still have today). The Quay was substantially reconstructed in 1845 as part of efforts to improve the community. At the same time, Improvement Commissioners were assigned with the job of making the community wide and appealing to residents and the growing visitor trade. As a tiny port, it built ships till the late nineteenth century; it never transferred to developing electric motor vessels or to steel hulls. The coming of the train in 1857 decreased the harbour profession however it restored quickly after the 2nd World War for the import of fertilizer and also pet feed. In 1982 there were 258 ship motions right into the harbour.

    FAQs

    How much does fencing cost?

The most basic fencing starts at about £27 per panel. But if you want something that’s more decorative and better quality, expect to budget £30-£40 per panel. If you choose to get a professional to help you put up your fencing, they’ll probably be able to get your panels at a cheaper rate.

How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
Do I need planning permission for fences?

Not if they are under 1 metre high if next to a road or 2 metres high elsewhere. It’s always recommended to check with your neighbours and the local authority if you are unsure. Other restrictions may apply, for example if a fence might impact driver visibility on nearby roads.

Do I need to dispose of the old fencing myself?

Most responsible contractors will dispose of the old fencing via an approved commercial waste site. Do check that the cost of taking rubbish away is included in the quotes you receive, otherwise you might find you get stung when it comes to paying for the work.
