Fencing in Diss

Interested in having fencing installed in Diss? By using the Quotatis service it's possible to contrast up to four fence companies to get the best deal available for the work you need.

Fencing is extremely important for all homes no matter whether it's the front or back garden. From repair work to a total installation of new fencing, working with a respectable company is highly advised to get the best price available.

Fences work as a boundary to our households and with an installation you'll add more protection to your home and prevent easy access to your back garden. Back garden fences are traditionally around six feet high, which instantly makes it tougher for intruders to gain access.

Decorative fencing or wooden picket fencing will often be most suited for the front garden, where security isn't as vital. Instead, you're more likely to opt for a front garden fence specifically for design and to add something different.

For whatever style of fencing you're looking to have installed, make sure you use our totally free and no obligation service to get the best deal available in Diss.

Average Wooden fencing cost in Diss

It will also differ among regions, so it's best to get a few quotes to see what the best price is in your area.

Diss

Diss is an English market town and also electoral ward in the East Anglian area of Norfolk, near the border with Suffolk. It had a population of 7,572 in 2011. Diss train station is on the Great Eastern Main Line from London to Norwich. The community depends on the valley of the River Waveney, round a plain covering 6 acres (2.4 ha) and also as much as 18 feet (5.5 m) deep, although there is an additional 51 feet (16 m) of mud. The community takes its name from dic an Anglo-Saxon word meaning either ditch or embankment. Diss has a variety of historic buildings, consisting of a very early 14th-century parish church and also an 1850s corn exchange still in operation. Four miles east of Diss is the 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum at the previous RAF Thorpe Abbotts landing field. In March 2006, Diss ended up being the 3rd town in the UK to join Cittaslow, an international organisation advertising the idea of "Slow Towns". However, it has since left this initiative.

    FAQs

Do I need planning permission for fences?

Not if they are under 1 metre high if next to a road or 2 metres high elsewhere. It’s always recommended to check with your neighbours and the local authority if you are unsure. Other restrictions may apply, for example if a fence might impact driver visibility on nearby roads.

Can I make my neighbour repair their fence?

For a lot of home and property owners in the UK, a common courtesy is being neighbourly and several people find it relatively easy to get along with the folks next door. However, for most individuals, where the major dispute arises most times is due to boundaries which can lead to impasse that may only be resolved through legal action. But since nobody wants that, when boundary issues become more than just passing a comment about the current condition of the fence, you may want to clue yourself up on what to do to get the desired action. If attempts have been made to talk to your neighbour to no avail, there are a couple of things you can consider to make “them next door repair their fence. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight on these things to help you make informed decisions. Let’s take a look!

Firstly, it should be stated that if the fence poses an immediate danger then the usual legalities doesn’t apply. In this scenario, you may need to report to the local council who’ll take the necessary action on your behalf.

    • Offer assistance. Since the cost of repairing a fence isn’t the cheapest thing to do, a lot of people might not be too eager to carry out this project and any friendly suggestion to do so may not be taken kindly. So if you feel that the this may be the issue, you can try offering some assistance to lessen the financial burden on your neighbour.
    • Put up your own fence. If all attempts fail, you can consider erecting your own fence. However, this must be on your own property and as close to the boundary as possible.
Fence ownership: who owns that garden fence?

When it comes to fence ownership and responsibility, this is often a subject of dispute between neighbours and understandably so. Owning a fence comes with a number of responsibilities such as arranging and paying for the maintenance and more. Therefore, if you’re not yet sure who owns the garden fence, then you’d probably want to have that sorted to make sure your property stays protected at all times. In this post, we’re going to give you an insight into some of the rules guiding fence ownership in order to help you make informed decisions. Let’s take a look!

There’s no rule of thumb on whether you own the fence on the right hand or the left hand side of your property. Therefore, if you’ve heard any “rules that states otherwise, you can fling that out the window because not everyone will own the left hand side to their fence. The first way to determine who owns the garden fence or which side of the fence you’re responsible for is simply by looking. Although this is not guaranteed or a definite way to determine ownership, it can go a long way to give you a good idea. As you would have expected, fences are most likely built on the land that belongs to the boundary’s owner with the further edge of the fence making the actual boundary. As a result, you can determine a fence ownership simply by identifying where the frames are.

Also, you can determine fence ownership using the title deeds for an official and accurate answer. A copy should be given alongside your paperwork which is received when purchasing your house.

Do I need to dispose of the old fencing myself?

Most responsible contractors will dispose of the old fencing via an approved commercial waste site. Do check that the cost of taking rubbish away is included in the quotes you receive, otherwise you might find you get stung when it comes to paying for the work.
