Fencing is very important for all homes whether it is the front or back garden. From repair work to a complete installation of new fencing, employing a reputable company is highly advised to get the best price available.

Decorative fencing or wooden picket fencing are usually best suited for the front garden, where security isn't as important. Instead, you're more likely to select a front garden fence particularly for design and also to add something different.

North Walsham

North Walsham is a market town and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. Primarily for the purposes of local authorities, the town is a part of the North Norfolk district. According to the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of 12634 residing in the 6.67 square miles. North Walsham lies 7.5 miles south of Cromer and 7.5 miles north of Wroxham. The town is served by North Walsham railway station, allowing quick access to Norwich, Cromer and Sheringham. The town lies on the B1145, which is a route running between King's Lynn and Mundesley. It began to progress from the 12th century thanks to the arrival of weavers from Flanders. The name of the town originates from the fabrics produced by the weavers. 'Walsham' related to a light-weight fabric for summertime garments. The huge 14th-century 'wool churches' are vibrant demonstrations of the success of the regional mill owners. North Walsham's church of St. Nicholas is one of the UK's biggest parish churches, along with having the 2nd highest steeple in Norfolk prior to its collapse in 1724. Its ruins are a prominent feature of the town centre and it is now a recognised landmark of the area. The North Walsham and Dilham Canal, owned by the North Walsham Canal Company, ranged from Antingham Mill to a point prior to Honing, which followed the course of the River Ant. The town has been the home of a number of movie theatres over the 20th century. North Walsham Picturedrom was open between 1912 and 1931, the Regal Cinema between 1931 and 1979, and the present cinema, the Atrium, opened in 2011. For all of your home upgrades, make certain to make use of trusted experts in North Walsham to make certain of quality.

    FAQs

Can I make my neighbour repair their fence?

For a lot of home and property owners in the UK, a common courtesy is being neighbourly and several people find it relatively easy to get along with the folks next door. However, for most individuals, where the major dispute arises most times is due to boundaries which can lead to impasse that may only be resolved through legal action. But since nobody wants that, when boundary issues become more than just passing a comment about the current condition of the fence, you may want to clue yourself up on what to do to get the desired action. If attempts have been made to talk to your neighbour to no avail, there are a couple of things you can consider to make “them next door repair their fence. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight on these things to help you make informed decisions. Let’s take a look!

Firstly, it should be stated that if the fence poses an immediate danger then the usual legalities doesn’t apply. In this scenario, you may need to report to the local council who’ll take the necessary action on your behalf.

    • Offer assistance. Since the cost of repairing a fence isn’t the cheapest thing to do, a lot of people might not be too eager to carry out this project and any friendly suggestion to do so may not be taken kindly. So if you feel that the this may be the issue, you can try offering some assistance to lessen the financial burden on your neighbour.
    • Put up your own fence. If all attempts fail, you can consider erecting your own fence. However, this must be on your own property and as close to the boundary as possible.
How do I find out who owns a fence?

Speaking to the owners of the neighbouring properties is recommended. If you are still unsure, you may need to check the original deeds to the property. Generally the rule is that you are responsible for the fence at the right hand side of your property.

Do I need planning permission for fences?

Not if they are under 1 metre high if next to a road or 2 metres high elsewhere. It’s always recommended to check with your neighbours and the local authority if you are unsure. Other restrictions may apply, for example if a fence might impact driver visibility on nearby roads.

How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
