Fencing in Exeter

Interested in having fencing installed in Exeter? Using the Quotatis service it's possible to check as many as four fence contractors to get the best deal available for the job you want.

Fencing is very important for all properties whether it's the front or back garden. From repair work to a full installation of new fencing, employing a reputable company is highly encouraged to get the best price available.

Fences act as a boundary to our homes and with an installation you'll add more security to your home and prevent easy access to your back garden. Back garden fences are traditionally close to 6 feet high, which right away makes it more difficult for intruders to gain access.

Decorative fencing or wooden picket fencing will often be suitable for the front garden, where security isn't as vital. Instead, you're more likely to choose a front garden fence specifically for design in order to add something different.

For whatever sort of fencing you're wanting to have installed, make sure to make use of our totally free and no obligation service to get the best deal available in Exeter.

Average Wooden fencing cost in Exeter

The regular cost of a new or replacement fence is approximately £20-£45 per foot, not including removing your existing fence which could cost an extra £5-10 per foot. The labour costs depend on the length and height of your fence, the number of posts and the material used. It will also differ among regions, so it's best to get a few quotes to see what the best price is in your area.

    FAQs

How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
How do I find out who owns a fence?

Speaking to the owners of the neighbouring properties is recommended. If you are still unsure, you may need to check the original deeds to the property. Generally the rule is that you are responsible for the fence at the right hand side of your property.

Do I need to dispose of the old fencing myself?

Most responsible contractors will dispose of the old fencing via an approved commercial waste site. Do check that the cost of taking rubbish away is included in the quotes you receive, otherwise you might find you get stung when it comes to paying for the work.

    How to build a fence?

The best way to build a fence depends on what style it is, as different types have different components. However, fencing made up of posts and panels is pretty common. To put this up, you’ll need to start by measuring out and digging holes for your fence posts. Then you’ll need to fit the panels between them and use concrete to secure the posts in the ground.
