Faringdon
Faringdon is a historical market community in the Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire, England. Within the historical borders of Berkshire, it is 18 miles (29 kilometres) south-west of Oxford, 10 miles (16 km) north-west of Wantage as well as 12 miles (19 kilometres) east-north-east of Swindon. It is a big parish, its lowest parts including the River Thames in the north and its highest ground reaching the Ridgeway in the south. Faringdon was the westernmost community in Berkshire till the 1974 limit adjustments moved it to Oxfordshire. The civil parish is formally Great Faringdon to identify it from Little Faringdon in West Oxfordshire. The 2011 Census gave a population of 7,121. On 1 February 2004, Faringdon was provided Fairtrade Town status, as the first Fairtrade Town in South East England. It is the base for Faringdon Enterprise Gateway, which aids and encourages organisations in country west Oxfordshire.
