Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London within the London Borough of Bexley. It is north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It's separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established after the sale of land in 1881 to build the Bexleyheath loop line in between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name stems from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a local home and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Currently, the railway station runs trains between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, via Lewisham and Eltham towards the west and Dartford railway station to the east. There are 12 trains each hour for the duration of the week; on Sundays, there are 4 trains an hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the construction of houses. The Barnehurst Estate was constructed in 1926 which housed lots of people.
As well as the railway station, Barnehurst is served by 5 buses, one of which goes to the popular Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are limited purchasing or leisure opportunities inside the town, so individuals typically go to surrounding areas working with public transport links or the primary roads.
Barnehurst is house towards the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
