Ambleside
Ambleside is a community in Cumbria, in North West England. Historically in Westmorland, it is situated ahead of Windermere, England's largest natural lake. The town is within the Lake District National Forest. Ambleside is provided by South Lakeland District Council and types part of the Lakes civil parish but from 1894 to 1935 it was a different urban area council. Ferries (still called "steamers", although now diesel powered) run to Bowness-on-Windermere as well as Shore offering fine sights of the lake and bordering hills. Ambleside is a base for hiking, mountaineering as well as hill biking. It has a variety of resorts, guest houses, bars as well as dining establishments along with stores. Specifically, there are a variety of stores offering tools for walkers and also mountain climbers in the town. Ambleside is a preferred starting factor for the Fairfield horseshoe, a hillwalking ridge walk. Ambleside is also residence to the head office of Brathay Exploration Group, a youth charity based just past Clappersgate when driving to Hawkshead. The album CSI: Ambleside, by Birkenhead-based band Half Guy Half Biscuit, is named after the community.
