Parquet Flooring in Dunfermline
Parquet flooring is a variety of wood flooring in which small wood blocks or strips are installed together to produce a distinctive design across the entirety of the floor. Parquet was traditionally installed with each individual strip painstakingly laid, but modern parquet is available in larger tiles or planks to provide the same appearance. Parquet floor is a very elegant flooring product which is best suited for large rooms or hallways where the appealing design can be best displayed. Parquet comes in a multitude of different patterns, the most common of which are herringbone, chevron or checkerboard. Parquet can also be manufactured from an enormous variety of different woods, but oak is the most common, accompanied by mahogany, maple and cherry. Modern parquet floor comes in either solid wood or engineered wood types, the latter of which incorporate several sheets of wood with a fibre board core and a top layer of the desired appearance of hardwood. Parquet flooring is durable and demands little maintenance. It is, however, unsuitable for areas that contain lots of moisture or humidity as the wood will warp or flex under these conditions. Parquet is typically installed by using a number of tiles that are glued to the subfloor with an adhesive. A specialist parquet floor company will be able to advise you of the most appropriate wood types and patterns for your home.
