Brackley is a town within south Northamptonshire. It's roughly 19 miles (31 kilometres) from Oxford and 22 miles (35 km) from Northampton. In the past, it was a market town based on the wool and lace trade, it was constructed on the intersection of trade routes in between London, Birmingham and the English Midlands and between Cambridge and Oxford. Brackley has a permanent population of approximately 13,018 (2011 Census) which has grown from 2,467 in 1901. The town was the location of a historically significant meeting between the barons and representatives of the King in 1215, the year of the Magna Carta. In 1602, the metaphysical poet John Donne was elected as Member of Parliament for the Brackley constituency. Brackley is near the Silverstone racing circuit, and boasts some industry related to Formula One racing, notably the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team which is located in the town, plus the Force India F1 team which has a wind tunnel on the former site of the north railway station. The plate which is still in the possession of St Peters Church is dated 1623, and is inscribed with the names of seven men, whom local folklore believes to have been the morris dancers.
