Enfield
The London Borough of Enfield is a London borough in north London with some districts within the borough straddling north-east London, England. It borders the London Boroughs of Barnet (to the west), Haringey (to the south) and Waltham Forest (to the south-east), the districts of Hertsmere (to the north-west), Welwyn Hatfield and Broxbourne (each towards the north) in Hertfordshire, and Epping Forest (towards the east) in Essex. The local authority is Enfield Council. It covers a total area of 31.74 square miles.
In accordance with population estimates from the middle of 2014, the borough features a permanent population of around 324574 people. The armorial bearings of these 3 boroughs have been also merged. The heraldic beast on the shield of the Enfield coat of arms is recognised in heraldry as an 'Enfield', or more colloquially as the 'Enfield beast', and it is utilised extensively as a logo representing Enfield, especially by the borough council. The Borough's Civic Centre is situated in Silver Street, Enfield Town and is home to the Council. Enfield Town is also home to the nearby credit union, North London Credit Union.
In 2007, Enfield Town centre completed a significant redevelopment project. An extension was added to the current retail area with several new shops. As well as this, a significant redevelopment of Edmonton Green, including the shopping centre, an adjacent municipal housing over a wide area, began in 1999 in order to provide new housing, health facilities, a brand new leisure centre, a supermarket, and many other civic features.
