If you have a unused garage, why not think about a conversion in Chard and make the most from the house. Compare and contrast as many as 4 totally free quotations with this service and find the ideal price for a conversion.

One of the major advantages with a garage conversion is the space can be transformed quickly for the additional room you would like, regardless of whether it's for a growing family or just to add to the price of your home.

A garage conversion means you won't need to relocate for more space, which often can save a lot of money on solicitor charges, estate agent payments and stamp duty. And the extra room could be changed into what you need, whether it's an expansion to the living area or kitchen, or simply a separate room completely.

With the structure already in place it's evident that a garage conversion will be less costly than creating an extension too, and won't consume valuable space within your garden. With the exterior unlikely to change as well, it's an alternative way to bypass restrictions for conservation areas as well as listed buildings.

If you are thinking about remodeling your garage, do a comparison of quotes from companies within Chard using our simple and fast service to obtain the best deal available.

Chard

Chard is a town and a civil parish in the English county of Somerset. It lies on the A30 road close to the Devon border, 15 miles (24 km) south west of Yeovil. The parish includes a population of around 13000 and, at an elevation of 121 metres (397 ft), Chard is the southernmost and highest town in Somerset. Administratively Chard makes up a part of the district of South Somerset. The name of the town was Cerden in 1065 and Cerdre in the Domesday Book of 1086. After the Norman Conquest, Chard was held by the Bishop of Wells. The town's initial charter was from King John in 1234. Chard is most famously called the birthplace of powered flight, as in 1848, John Stringfellow first demonstrated that engine-powered flight was achievable. Percy and Ernist Petter, who formed Westland Aircraft Works, witnessed some of Stringfellow's demonstrations in Chard and frequently asked for assistance in the formation of Westland's first aircraft development factory on the outskirts of Yeovil. Agusta Westland now holds the Henson and Stringfellow lecture yearly for the RAeS. Chard Reservoir, about a mile north east of the town, is a Local Nature Reserve, and Snowdon Hill Quarry a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest. Major employers within the town include Numatic International Limited and the Oscar Mayer food processing plant. You will find a range of sporting and cultural facilities, with secondary education being provided at Holyrood Academy. Religious sites include the Church of St Mary the Virgin which dates back to the late 11th century. For all of your home upgrades, make sure that you employ trustworthy experts in Chard to ensure you get the top quality.

do you need an architect for a garage conversion?
Have you decided to convert that under-utilized space ( garage) in your home to a more habitable space where you can do anything asides general storage or parking a car? If yes, then you’d probably want to know where to start or if you’d require an architect to get started. Well, you’re not alone! This is one of the most frequently asked questions when it comes to garage conversions and reasonably so. Talking about where to get started, when it comes to home improvement projects the first step to take is determining whether or not you’d require a planning permission or if your proposed garage conversion is covered under permitted development rights. Once you’ve been able to conclude on that, the next step is deciding whether you’re going to complete the project yourself, hire the services of tradesmen or employing a builder. And this ultimately brings us to the question of whether you’ll need an architect for a garage conversion. To get started, it’s highly recommended that you employ the services of a professional architect or an architectural technologist to assist in designing your garage conversion. However, most garage conversion projects are straightforward with no complex changes to be made so far you wish to avoid applying for a planning permission and staying within the set guidelines of the permitted development rights. In such events, if you’re properly trained and well experienced in the field, then it may be cost effective to design your garage conversion by yourself. It should, however, be noted that it all depends on your personal preferences and budget. If you’re on tight budget and don’t mind a straightforward design, you can save cost by not hiring an architect.
how much is a single garage conversion?

Converting your garage into a habitable room can be an option that’s too good to pass up especially when you’re in dire need of more living space in your home. If you’re in a similar situation and considering the cost of a single garage conversion in your home, then you’ve come to the right place! The fact is, the cost of a single garage conversion is dependent on a number of influencing factors which includes your specific plans as well as your location. Generally, the price of garage remodel is expected to cost about half of what you’ll incur when building a home extension or addition from scratch. However, before commencing a project of this magnitude you should put into consideration some things.

A single garage conversion is a huge job which typically involves wall insulation, floor raising, heating addition, cool and ventilation as well as updating doors and windows. Before you get started you should consider if converting your single garage into a room is a good option, whether a permit is required to convert a garage, the type of room a garage can become, does it add value to your home and how much its going to cost.

Just like any other home improvement project, garage conversion cost varies depending on several factors like your garage space specifications. Other factors include the general condition of your garage - the condition of your foundation, walls, floors or roofs, the ceiling and more, planning applications, your location, the services of a structural engineer, internal or external garages etc. According to Santander, the average cost of converting a single garage costs approximately £6,300. do i need planning permission for a garage conversion?

Are you thinking about converting your garage into a new space? Be it a new bedroom, gym, library or playroom, one thing you’ll have to consider before getting started is whether or not you’re going to require a planning permission. Unlike extensions that needs additional space, garage conversion is all about changing the existing structure of a space that’s already available to you - your garage. As a result, these projects are mostly covered by a planning policy that’s a bit different.

For a garage conversion, it’s very unlikely that you’ll need a planning permission. As a matter of fact, only 10 percent of garage conversions has been estimated to need a full planning permission, with the others coming under the permitted development rights. The permitted development rights, however, only provides coverage for home improvements that’s internal which implies that so far you’re not trying to enlarge your garage, you’ll not require a planning permission. But if otherwise, you’ll have to submit an application before commencing your project.

If you’re looking to comply with the permitted development rights, then your project must comply with some specific guidelines. These rules include the following:

• The work should be internal. No plans to enlarge or extend the existing garage.

• You should make sure that the materials used in carrying out the garage conversion is the same with the materials used in building the existing house.

• The building should not be extended.

You may, however, require a planning permission if you’re going to change a detached garage into a living space which could be a bedroom, small annexe or a living room.

Some houses excluded from the permitted development rights include flats, listed buildings, some new developments and most homes in a conservation area.
