Devizes
Devizes is a market town as well as civil parish in the centre of Wiltshire, England. It created around Devizes Castle, an 11th-century Norman castle, as well as obtained a charter in 1141 allowing regular markets, which are held weekly in a competitive market location. The castle was besieged throughout the Anarchy, a 12th-century civil war between Stephen of England and Empress Matilda, and again during the English Civil War when the Cavaliers (Royalists) raised the siege throughout the Fight of Roundway Down. Devizes continued to be under Royalist control up until 1645, when Oliver Cromwell attacked and forced the Royalists to surrender. The castle was destroyed in 1648 on the orders of Parliament, as well as today little remains of it. From the 16th century Devizes became understood for its textiles, as well as by the early 18th century it held the largest corn market in the West Country, building the Corn Exchange in 1857. In the 18th century, developing, healing of cigarette, and snuff-making were developed. The Wadworth Brewery was founded in the town in 1875. Standing at the west side of the Vale of Pewsey, the town has to do with 10.5 miles (16.9 kilometres) southeast of Chippenham and also 11 miles (18 kilometres) east-north-east of the county town of Trowbridge. It has nearly five hundred listed structures, some notable churches, a city center as well as an environment-friendly in the centre of the community.
